In O Centro do Mundo, Ana Borralho & João Galante invite us to enter a light and sound installation that presents us with a parallel reality through the use of virtual reality goggles. Visited by characters and their testimonies, we get the feeling of being constantly under outside surveillance. A plunge into the unique experience of being at the show’s core, both inside and outside of oneself, amplifying and immersing in the contradictions of being human. While the psychic labyrinth appears as the centre of the world, the proliferation of disparate characters who keep questioning their own existence dilutes and undermines the very notion of identity.

Ana Borralho (Lagos, 1972) & João Galante (Luanda, 1968) met while studying visual arts at AR.CO (Lisbon) and worked together regularly in the 1990s as actors/creators of the OLHO theatre group in Cacilhas/Almada. Since 2002, they have been working together on their own performance art, dance, theatre, installation, photography, sound and video art projects. Their work has been presented at international festivals in Portugal, France, Spain, Switzerland, Scotland, Brazil, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Italy, England, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Hungary, the Netherlands, Canada, Iceland, Taiwan, Greece, Slovenia and Sweden. Borralho and Galante are co-founders of the non-musical band Jimmie Durham and the cultural association casaBranca. They are also artistic directors/curators of the contemporary arts festival Verão Azul (Lagos+Loulé), and co-curators of the now defunct electronic music festival Electrolegos (Lagos). They live and work in Lisbon and Lagos.
