Praia da Luz has a geological history that goes back to the Lower Cretacious period some 120 million years ago. The rocks we find on this beach form a background with a range of fantastic colours. These rocks also preserve a wide variety of fossils, such as the gastropod shells of Nerinella Algarbiensis. It is these fossils that reveal and tell us the history of the past, its climate and all the changes that happened millions of years ago.
